A blogging bishop

As traditional as a church may be, as the world changes, little things about how the church does things may change too.
This fall, a new Catholic bishop will be able to point his church members to his blog, which he has been writing for quite some time.
The fact that Father Thomas Dowd, who has been appointed a Montreal bishop effective September 10, is active on the 'net, has proved interesting to the press. They are intrigued by the "Facebooking Father":
Dowd said he hopes that by embracing social media, the Catholic Church will have a platform that will help it become more accessible.
"We are going to have to acknowledge things that don't work ... but at the same time be equally transparent and responsive," said Dowd.
On his blog Waiting In Joyful Hope, Dowd wrote yesterday that while he is flattered by the attention, there were already Catholic bishops who were active on the Internet in some way, some with their own blogs.
